For many years, TFP Nutrition has been a sponsor to the Nacogdoches County Sheriff Department, to provide dog food for their two K-9 officers, Gamo and Chaka.

We were recently visited by John Wayne Valdez, who has been with the Sheriff’s Department for over 7 years and currently trains and handles Gamo, a 3-year-old, Malinois Belgian Shepard. Gamo looked like a sweet dog, but make no mistake, he is known for his crushing bite! Gamo comes from the prestigious Idefix lineage in the Netherlands, and his breeder and previous owner runs one of the most successful kennels in Europe. It is a proven program that breeds dogs that are ideal for law enforcement performance.

Gamo and Chaka are both dual purpose K-9 officers, proficient in narcotic seizures, building searches and tracking. Officer Valdez and Officer Reyana (Chaka’s trainer) work 18-20 hours per month on scenario training to keep the dogs conditioned and in top form. Breeding, training and optimum nutrition are all critical factors for producing an excellent canine athlete like Gamo. Sergeant Valdez commented “Gamo likes his food and is doing very well on it. I have no intention of changing it while he is still actively working, because it provides the high energy he needs to perform at a very intense level.”
